Reading Skills:
Starfall This website teaches early reading skills, as well as provides a place for students to read electronic stories.
TumbleBooks This is a great site! It has many books that are narrated and played on the screen. There are even activities to do after the story is over, or you can create a playlist so your child can listen to many books in one sitting without assistance. The site is free if you access it through the Rapid City Public Library’s website. On the left side of the site are links, put your cursor over Kids and then click on Tumblebooks.
Sesame Street This website has videos and games that help children learn letter names, numbers, animals sounds and etc.
Nick Jr. This site has more games on basic letters, numbers, and shapes.
Disney Junior This site has games on building color matching, hand eye coordination, and counting.
Math Skills:
CoolMath4Kids Students can pick what skill they need to practice while playing fun games.
CoolMath This website has a lot of games that are barely math related, but there are a few games that really do help students practice their math skills. This website is always a big hit, from elementary to middle schoolers.
The Kidz Page This website has good math games. It also has word searches, coloring pages, and other printable worksheets. I find this website to be very full of advertisements and small print. I linked to the math games specifically, but feel free to go to the home page if you’d like to use the other features of the site.
Math and Reading Skills:
Abcya This website has lots of games for both reading and math skills. Your child will pick what grade level of skills they want to work on while playing.
Learning Games for Kids This site really has everything from math to science. It has vocabulary, spelling, social studies and so on.
Life Skills:
Spatulatta This site has good tips, videos, and recipes for kids as they learn their way around the kitchen.
Science:
Wonderopolis This site answers questions students may have about the world around them.
Kids National Geographic You can create an account for this site, but it is still free.
Make Me Genius This website is full of science videos that are high interest on a variety of subjects.
How Stuff Works This is another site full of science articles to help explain how things work in our world.
Social Studies:
Time for Kids This is full of articles about current events.
BBC History for Kids This site is very good for kids learning more about history, from ancient times to more modern times.
Typing Practice:
Dance Mat Typing This website is produced through BBC and is a great way for kids to work on their typing skills, an important skill for them to learn as they progress through school.
Just For Fun:
FunBrain This site has lots of safe, fun games for kids to play. I am a HUGE fan of this site. There are some books to read online at this site as well, but it is mostly just games for fun.
PBS Kids This site has fun games for kids to play as well as videos for kids to watch.
National Gallery of Art Kids This site has many interactive ways you and your child can create art on the computer.
